Summer is here. HEAT WAVE! So has the Redfish bite. Everything is working. The easy ticket is head on shrimp. Think shallow water this time of the year. Make sure to have plenty of liquids with when out there. Enjoy the rest of the summer. It's very crouded on the waters, so think water safety and be water courtious out there. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters.

Will it's that time of the year. Where eveything you throw at them and theybarev goingb to bite it. Water temperatures are up in the 90's and the plastics are out away. Hard baits are the way to go. Spoons, Rattletraps, Crankbaits and if your lucky, top waters will snatch you some Redfish. And of course, shrimp, Fish Bites, Live Tilapia and fresh cut bait will work too. It's very crouded on the waters, so think water safety and be water courtious out there. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters.

With Redfish season just around the corner, you still have a couple of back up plans to catch fish. Looking into the future, get all your gear, boat and truck shined up for the new season. We didn't have a reel good winter. Everything is a head of schedule. So get out all your soft plastics, weights and shiny hooks, let the Redfish begin.    Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. Fishing this time of the year depends a lot on the weather. It could be windy one day and the calm with over cast conditions. For the Redfish, it is so hit and miss. One day your smashing them  and the next day you might get one. Now for the Catfish, they seem to be more consistent this time of the year. I'm seeing Redfish being caught on crankbaits and soft plastics. For the Catfish, the best Baits that seem to be  working- Shrimp, Big Mervs, Fish Bites and cut Shad.  Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. I want to thank everyone who made my season so successful. The bite has been real consistant all season long. Now that winter has rolled up on us, its time to break out your anchors. Probally the most consistant bait is shrimp. Rattletraps will be a hard second choice to shrimp. Don't forget to chum some catfish spots, it will pay off. Also, Big Merv's Cheese bait will load your boat up. Bring plenty of towels for your hands,  Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. Awesome start for September fishing. Pretty much everything is working. Trolling, casting and bottom fishing is producing fish. The only thing, you watch the wind directions. North winds change everything. If you want to get bites, bottom fishing with shrimp will work, stay shallow. For trollers, spoons and soft plastics are working. For the caster, spoons, lipless crankbaits, swim baits and slabs will produce them Redfish.  Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Head on shrimp is the ticket. It will catch you fish. Trolling is a little tougher, if your willing to look for them. Spoons have been my go to bait, but anything shiny seems to work. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. What change from last year. Last year this time, most fish were on the East Side of the lake. This season, they are all on the West Side of lake. Not sure if its because of not having any rain or not. The water temperatures are holding around 90 degrees.  Plastics are working , but are fading color fast, due to the warmer waters. So, your harder baits seem to be working better. Spoons, crank baits and inline spinners are working. Still, if anchoring up is your style, head on shrimp and bubble gum baits will work. Starting to see a lot of smaller fish move in. Its tough fishing when your burning bait on a nest of them. For the most part, everyone is catching fish. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. Boy o' Boy, what a start to spring Redfish season. Starting back at the power lines, to the Dam, and to 181 channel. It has been pretty good fishing. Most of the fish have been caught suspended, with the bottom bite being on. I have not done much bottom fishing but some of the guides are catching them bottom fishing. Water temperatures being up in the high eighties. Now the Blue Catfish are starting to show up in big numbers. They are big fish too. Baits that are working well on the Redfish are Hogies, Bass Assassins, and Down South Lures. Watch the water temps, once they get over the ninety's, it will be time for the spoons.  Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. What a great start. Coming off the winter fishing , right into the early spring pattern. These Redfish are showing life. They schooling up in the mid lake to Lone Oak. They are stacked up in certain areas, use your electronics to locate them. Then unleash the hammer on them. Were using a lot of soft plastics- Hogies, H&H, and Bass Assassin. Don't be afraid of trying different colors and sizes. Great rule of thumb is on dark days try darker and solid colors. For bright and sunny days try your clearer baits with flakes in them. Also, speed has been a major contribution on getting bit. The bank and bottom fishermen have been doing great on shrimp, crawfish, live bait (from the lake) and fish bites. By the way, looking at my social media, the bite at Canyon Lake looks good. Seeing a lot of Bass and Stripe Bass being caught. Some of them being good ones too. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. Boy o' boy, what a great start for catfish. November till now, the bite has been consistent. weather your drift fishing, using bobbers or bottom fishing, they have been on the bite. The weird thing is, I'm seeing some nice size Redfish being caught too. One of the great things about technology is mastering it. I'm finding out that how important side scan is. That tool in shallow water is the bomb. If you haven't tried it, your missing out on some good fishing. Besides the weather being unpredictable, you also have to pay attention the smoke stacks. If they aren't running, its going to be a tough day out there. But if they are running both of the stacks, its just a matter of time before you find the fish. The baits will very from fishermen to fishermen, but these baits are working- Cheese Baits, Shrimp, live bait such as shad or perch and fresh cut bait. don't forget Spring break is right around the corner. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

         Bones Fishing Guide Service

Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. What a great season of fishing! The whole month of October was fantastic. Lots of big Redfish were being caught. Started off with bottom fishing for them with shrimp and ended up casting big artificial baits at them. The go to seemed to a gold spoon. A one ounce Rattletrap really worked well too. Caught some monster Redfish on a 6 inch swim bait. There are still some fish schooled up in their spawn mood, but all the fronts coming in, in will be hit and miss for them on the spawn pattern. Now, Canyon Lake should be heating up with Top water action. Get out there early, on a calm day and let your arm fall off till you get them. White Bass, Stripe Bass and Bass should be the targeted species. Spoons, small swim baits and top water baits will do it. If it's too windy, pull out your crankbaits and start trolling. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

They stay around for about 4 cast and that is it. So make them first 2 count. Using casting spoons, swim baits and lipless crank baits.    Calaveras Lake fishing for early September, has been all over the lake. Meaning, one day they are at the dam, the next day they are in the coves, the next day they are suspended over creek channels. Bottom fishing with fish bites, shrimp and live tilapia, seems to be the ticket. I've be seeing a lot fish caught in Granny's Cove and Boat Ramp Point. Now for down rigging and casting, spoons, jigging and slabs seemed to work. I like the gold patterns better. Remember the spawn is real close. Long cast and steady retrieves will work. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

June, July and August were fantastic for spoons, gold or silver would do the trick. With the season coming to an end, look for big schools podding up over deep water.   It's that time of year again. Spring is in the air and the boats are on the water. Like to start with trailer maintenance. Proper air pressure, fresh grease on the wheel bearings and your trailer lights are working. ALLWAYS look for screws and bolts on the boat ramp. Pick up and properly dispose of them. If not, they may end up in your tires. Tires aren't cheap!

Now for the fishing. Water temperatures were coming up until the big snow storm we had, boy did they drop. ( Was at 73 degrees dropped to 62 degrees) Still saw some more Redfish and Catfish being caught. Trolling, down rigging and bottom fishing is working for the Redfish. Now for the Channel Catfish, pretty much bottom fishing and for shallow water, use a bobber. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Whether it's deep water fishing or working a rock line. Some of the popular baits are shad, cheese bait, shrimp and Fish Bites bait(bubble gum baits). Usually a half ounce weight, swivel and 5/0 hook will, except on cheese bait. A treble hook will work better. Don't for get about White Bass, it's right around the corner. Fall is here. Redfish spawn is in full swing at both lakes. Seeing a lot of mature Redfish being caught. Trolling, bottom fishing or even casting is working. Soft plastics and spoon are working for trolling. Shrimp will  get you some action, awesome for the kids. For casting, spoons, rattle Traps and slabs are working very well. If your not getting a hit, and you are seeing them, change your lure up. Now, with all the fronts coming in, you have to be veritable. High winds and temperature drops will change day to day for Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. The Catfish are starting to move around too. Seeing more Blue Cats than Channel Cats being caught. I'm seeing a lot fisherman baiting holes and some catfish at the cleaning station. For Canyon Lake, with light winds and over cast days, you should be able to see top water action across the lake. White Bass, Stripe Bass and Black Bass should be feeding up for the winter. A good swim bait, casting spoon or a spook will get them. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

With the the rising temperatures, Calaveras Lake fishing and Braunig Lake fishing has been real consistent for catching Redfish and Blue Cats. For the Blue Cats, drift fishing and using your i-pilot has been working. using fresh cut bait seems to be the ticket, unless you want to use chicken meat. We are seeing a lot of small, throw back Redfish being caught. Mixed in with 20 inchers to 32 inchers. Down rigging with gold or silver spoons is working, if you can find some space to do it. Most fisherman are anchoring up and throwing bait on the bottom. Shrimp is working well, small live perch and bubble gum baits are working too. Look for Blue Cats suspending in 20 feet to 30 feet of water. For the Redfish, look for them in 8 feet to 16 feet of water. Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

 Bones Fishing Guide Service

Calaveras Lake & Braunig Lake Fishing,  Redfish started around March 15th, and its off to a slow start. They are way behind schedule. For both Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. I'm seeing from all the fishing guides out there about the same results. averaging 1 to 4 keeper redfish. By watching facebook, it seems the night fisherman are doing better. Over all San Antonio's fishing is only going to get better, especially when the sun decides to stay! My biggest recommendation is to cover a lot of water or grind to you find them redfish. For the Stripe Bass, just pick up your speed and hold on, because out of the blue , the Stripers will nail your bait.

For Canyon Lake Fishing, I'm seeing some post of catches of Crappies. They should be ready or are spawning. So load up on some minnows and jigs, and hit the water. Now the bass should also be spawning or getting to. Beat the backs or cover a lot of shore line.  Thank you for choosing Bones Fishing Guide Service, Trips & Charters

Updates are finally here. I've been at Canyon Lake a couple of times. It's either really good or just ok. When the fish are on top, it's pretty exciting. It seems the whole lake is bubbling. White Bass, Stripe Bass and Large Mouths are feeding. If we had the magical match on what they are eating, we would sink the boat with fish. But, that is fishing. Now, there is word that 99 bridge is producing some very nice limits of white bass. There is finally some water in there, Yes can launch your boat. For the Nueces River, We are seeing some mix bag of male and female white bass. Not sure what is going on with the rapids, but i'm pretty sure they are catching there too. Water temperature is around 59 degrees. Also, the water is up at both the Guadalupe River and the Nueces River, at least 4 to 5 feet. So be careful when boating up and down the rivers..

Catfishing is in full swing at Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. Shallow water, Flats, Points and Deep water areas are working. If they are not biting in one are, move around till you find them. Cheese Baits, Shad and Shrimp usually works best. Don't forget about trying some chicken livers. On some warms days, you might be able to find some Redfish mixed in with them. There is a lot of pot licking going on at the Lakes, LOL, but that's how it goes on them two small lakes. Try bottom fishing, free lining, drifting or even old reliable bobber. Remember, what didn't work today, might work tomorrow!

The Redfish fishing is slowing down. we are seeing some catches of redfish, but it's slim to none. the catfish bite sound pick up for Calaveras Lake and Braunig Lake. White Bass fishing is all most here. It will start early, down south. The Nueces River will kick it off with some showings of some male White Bass.. Guadalupe River will be next, so keep your eyes and ears open for that. Some great ways to find them, start off putting a rod in the water. They will hit about everything small. Good Luck, Tight Lines!

The spawn is all most over at Calaveras and Braunig Lake. We will see what happens after all this crazy rain and weather moves out. Down rigging, casting and bottom fishing is working. You have to be flexible in your approach when targeting these Redfish. I've seen some nice Blue Cats showing up at the table to. Wide variety of baits and methods are working. Just keep in mind, there is a lot of boats in certain areas of the lake. Be very  opened minded and that these areas are a community fishing hole. You don't have to make long cast to catch them. Don't forget about Canyon Lake, the White Bass and Stripers should be on there summer patterns. 1 ounce jigging spoons should do the trick there. Call Captain Nixon to get on some of that action.  Fall is all most here, there could be some schooling on the top. they are feeding up on shad and glass minnows.

Don't forget the Redfish spawn is all most over here. The middle of November, we should start seeing some White Bass and Catfish start to show. Nueces River and the Guadalupe River for those tasty fillets. Again, with all this rain , the White Bass season should be a good one and be on fire again this year.

Calaveras Lake is on fire for Redfish. The boats are loading up with them right now. They are biting on pretty much everything you can throw at them. The 181 one cove is where most of the action is , but the two cove on each side will work to. We had a group company fishing charter this week with three boats and we put 41 keeper redfish on the cleaning table. There catching redfish at Braunig Lake to, pretty much in the back of the lake behind the jettie. Spoons and soft plastics will work there to. Now the water temperatures are hovering around the 98 degrees. I all ways say , The hotter the Better!

The Blue Cats are there, not seeing many brought to the table compared to the years in the past.  I do have a blue Cats trip this week , they wanting to catch some blue cats. We are going to see what happens, you never know until you put a line in the water...

Rain, we have been seeing a lot of it lately. It moves the fish around some. Most of the time the redfish will move up to shallower water. Seeing a lot of action on spoons. Play it by ear on the size and color, try different combinations until you pick a fish. Then just duplicate it. Seeing a lot of people anchored up and using shrimp and catching them redfish. Calaveras Lake, Braunig Lake, Canyon Lake and Choke Canyon Reservoir should be producing fish, you never know until you wet a line.......

Starting to see signs of the summer patterns setting in.  For the most part, the fish have been in the back of the lake. Every once in a while, we will see schools up by the dam, rusty sign  to the point of the jetty. Noticing for the big schools the 5 inch or big spoons are working well. If your grinding , down sizing the baits are working..
